The number one key to investing in relationships is something we all have the same amount of: time.  By spending time with others, we show them that we care about them.  We show them that they are valuable.  We get to know them.  They get to know us.

Here are a few tips for investing in relationships with others:

  1. Be genuinely interested in getting to know others, and determine to show it.
  2. Ask questions.  Learn the art of asking questions to get to know people.  Start with the basics.  Ask about family.  Ask about what others do for fun.  Ask about school.  Ask about free time.  Ask about music... and the list goes on.  And pay attention to the answers and share about yourself as appropriate.
  3. Serve.  Find ways to practically help others and show them that you care.
  4. Give.  Giving small gifts is a great way to care about others.  What would be something small that your friend would be happy to receive as a gift?  Is there even something you can make?
  5. In summary: Love.  Look for creative ways to love people and show them that they are valuable and that you care.
