A few days ago I drove to Coalinga to have lunch with a married couple, Josh and Amy. Josh is a chaplain at the local prison; Amy is a counselor at the college. They have a passion for college students at West Hills to know Jesus! Awhile back I met with a local youth pastor, Jarod, and Jarod told Josh and Amy that they needed to meet me. I am so glad he did!
Over lunch I showed Josh and Amy the Soularium spiritual survey. I also walked them through some very simple follow-up tools to share the Gospel and teach students how to read the Bible. At one point, Josh and Amy remarked: “This is so simple! We were thinking that we were going to have to wait a few months and do a lot of planning and preparation - but we could start doing this now!” I was so encouraged by their enthusiasm. They are currently thinking and praying through their next step - which might be simply starting to disciple some college students they already know. What a great way to start a disciple-making movement! Pray for Josh and Amy! Pray that the Lord would use them to reach West Hills College! West Hills College in Coalinga has almost 7,000 students in attendance (and some of them are international students from unreached people-groups!). There is no evangelism and disciple-making ministry reaching those students on campus!
So a few weeks ago, I called a church in Coalinga and was able to talk with the new youth pastor, Jarod. I asked him if he’d be interested in talking about reaching the campus with the Gospel. He said ‘Yes!’ On Tuesday I drove to Coalinga to grab lunch with Jarod. Over lunch I told him about how he could have a huge impact on campus simply by devoting a few hours a week to disciple-making on campus, and I offered to train him and give him resources so that he can have the greatest impact. He texted me this morning that he had already spoken with a few others about our conversation. Pray for Jarod, that the Lord would continue to bless his ministry, and that the Lord would use him to make a HUGE impact for the Gospel on campus at West Hills College. West Hills is one of the 113 community college campuses in California. Most of these campuses have no evangelism and disciple-making ministry reaching their students. Pray with me for a Jarod near every community college campus! Our vision is to equip a local church to reach every single one of the 113 community colleges in California by 2020. |
AuthorThe Yorks are passionate about bringing the Gospel to the nations - especially the unreached of the world (those who have no access to the Gospel). They are convinced that the greatest impact they can have in reaching the unreached is by multiplying disciples on college campuses and equipping churches to be missional disciple-makers. Archives
