Last week I went to Solano College to do some evangelism training with Joe (and his wife and two kids). He and his wife met through a college ministry, and their college ministry was so life transforming for them personally that they want to give back by doing the same for others!
Joe is the one who found me by Google-ing college campus ministries about a month ago.
I arrived on campus a few minutes before them; so I just texted him what building I was in. I was expecting that when they showed up, we'd visit for a bit and then go outside to a central area of campus and connect with some students. We had hardly greeted each other in the building when he calls to a student walking by asking "hey how's it going... you have a few minutes to talk." He proceeds to take the student through the Soularium Spiritual Survey..... shared the Gospel with him.... taught him how to do a One Thing Study.... and then invites him out to lunch sometime.
This happened a few MORE times!
An hour later and he's already got several students to follow up with.
Praise the Lord for the Joe's! Praise the Lord for the spiritual openness on campus at Solano College!
Pray for Joe and his family to have a HUGE impact at Solano college as they begin to regularly make disciples on campus.
Pray for the Lord to raise up more "Joe's" near college campuses everywhere.
A few weeks ago I got an email from Joe. He wrote in his email that he and his wife had moved to the area and were settled and ready to be used by God to invest in college students. While talking to him on the phone, he explained that he and his wife had met each other through a college ministry, and that they both had people loving them and investing in them while they were in college... and that it was such a key time in their lives for spiritual growth! Now, they want to do for others what was done for them.
I asked him, "How did you hear about me?"
His answer? "Google!"
How cool is that!!
So a few days ago I drove to Fairfield to meet with Joe over lunch. We had a wonderful visit. I shared with him some things I have learned about making disciples on college campuses, and gave him some suggestions for how to start. We had a time of prayer to close off our time together.
I am looking forward to the likely next step of getting on campus with Joe at Solano College to show him some ways to connect with students and disciple students into disciple-makers.
Praise the Lord for people like Joe who are so excited to invest in college students.
Pray for Joe, that the Lord would encourage him and equip him and bear fruit through him.
Thank you for joining us in helping the "Joes" to multiply disciples on college campuses!
Hope Christian Church in Fairfield is a wonderful church that wants to make disciples at Solano Community College! Last week I had the privilege of going on campus with them to train them in discovering spiritual interest on campus and following up with interested students.
After spending a few hours on campus, we already had at least one weekly Bible study established as well as several local disciple-makers equipped and passionate about reaching the campus with the Gospel. We also shared the Gospel with dozens of students.
Keep praying for a thriving discipleship movement at Solano Community College!
The Yorks are passionate about bringing the Gospel to the nations - especially the unreached of the world (those who have no access to the Gospel). They are convinced that the greatest impact they can have in reaching the unreached is by multiplying disciples on college campuses and equipping churches to be missional disciple-makers.
