I just returned from Santa Barbara last week. It was an amazing trip! Here are some of the highlights:
ONE: I had lunch with Jordan. Jordan and his wife are on CRU staff in Santa Barbara and have been investing in reaching Santa Barbara City College for a few years now. It was so refreshing to spend time with him! He is really passionate about making disciples that make disciples at Santa Barbara City College, and he is SO EXCITED to hear of our vision and strategy.
TWO: Jordan and I had coffee with Jonathan, a college pastor at a church very near the city college. We are all on the same page: wanting to equip students to share their faith and make disciples. Jonathan, Jordan and I already have dates planned to do outreach on campus as soon as school starts in the fall. We are so excited to see what the Lord will do at Santa Barbara City College!
THREE: While doing our spiritual survey on campus, I had the privilege of talking with an international student from Japan. He had never heard the Gospel before nor read the Bible! I shared the Gospel with him and showed him how he could read the Bible. I asked him if he’d want to get connected to a Bible study in the fall when school starts up again, and he said YES!
We just love partnering with churches to make disciples on college campuses! Jesus said, "The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields." (Luke 10:2) Our prayer is that the Lord would raise up churches to reach the college campuses near them.
Our experience on multiple campuses has shown us three wonderful truths:
We had the privilege of meeting with Jonathan, a youth and college pastor in Santa Barbara at a church near the college. We made the 12 hour drive from Sonora to Santa Barbara and back home... in one day. And it was SO worth it!
We found in Jonathan a kindred spirit - a passion for disciple-making and a heart to reach the campus. And a desire to see his church continue to grow in their missional / disciple-making effectiveness.
We look forward to going back in the coming months to go on campus with Jonathan and others from his church. We look forward to seeing God do an amazing work at Santa Barbara City College. We are so incredibly thankful that the Lord would invite us to be a part of it.
Pray for Jonathan. Pray for his family. Pray for his church. Pray that the Lord would bring about spiritual renewal at Santa Barbara City College.
The Yorks are passionate about bringing the Gospel to the nations - especially the unreached of the world (those who have no access to the Gospel). They are convinced that the greatest impact they can have in reaching the unreached is by multiplying disciples on college campuses and equipping churches to be missional disciple-makers.
