That was my prayer on Wednesday as I drove the 25-minute, winding Big Hill Road from my house in Twain Harte to the Columbia College campus. Tuesday is my campus day at Columbia College; I am normally traveling to other campuses in California on Wednesdays, but as my appointment in Fremont was postponed a week, I decided to show up on campus at Columbia College and see what God might do. I have learned time and time again that this is all I have to do: just show up, and then God works!
I grabbed my clipboard spiritual survey and walked around campus looking for students who looked like they had time to chat.
The third student I talked with, Cole, was happy to talk and share about his life and spiritual journey. I had the opportunity to share the Gospel with him, and then teach him a One Thing Study. And he happily agreed to meet up again on campus to do another One Thing Study!
He texted that same evening...
Steve, I wanted to thank you again for taking the time to talk with me today, and I wanted to share one of my favorite bible verses with you:
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not consume you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned and the flames shall not consume you." Isaiah 43:2
Cole and I plan to meet up again on Tuesday.
Pray for Cole, that the Lord would bless him and continue drawing him to Himself.
Pray for the multitude of 'Coles' on our college campuses.
Praising the Lord for the ripe harvest!
I am so thankful for what the Lord is doing at Columbia College!
In August, 2013, we started All Nations Columbia College. We started by simply setting up our Soularium Survey Table (a spiritual survey using pictures). Within the first 15 minutes, a few students (Elias and Emelie) came by to take the survey. Their answers were so spiritually profound that we knew immediately that Elias and Emelie loved Jesus. I'll never forget what they said:
"I'm so glad you are here on campus! We've been praying for something like this!!!"
It is wonderful to be an answer to prayer.
Elias and Emelie have been actively sharing their faith on campus ever since.
And Elias and Emily are just a few of the many students that have connected to our club on campus. In the two years that we have been at Columbia College, we have had about 30 different students at various times involved in campus Bible Studies.
School starts up again soon! Please be praying for disciple-making at Columbia College to thrive this semester.
Pray that the Lord would open hearts to Him.
Pray that God would give students a hunger for REAL life that is only found in Jesus.
Pray that the Lord would fill us with His love for other students as we seek to discover spiritual interest on campus. Pray that the Lord would connect us with more Eliases and Emelies... students who want to learn how to share their faith and disciple others.
May the Lord bring about spiritual renewal at Columbia College!
The Yorks are passionate about bringing the Gospel to the nations - especially the unreached of the world (those who have no access to the Gospel). They are convinced that the greatest impact they can have in reaching the unreached is by multiplying disciples on college campuses and equipping churches to be missional disciple-makers.
