It is the coolest thing to get a text from my friend (college pastor in Bakersfield) that says nothing... it is just a picture - of his students doing evangelism on campus at Bakersfield College.
I was there the previous week showing them how simple and effective the Soularium survey is in discovering spiritual interest on campus, and now they are doing it without me.
I love this king of 'missing out'.
Pray for pastor Kyle and his student leaders to see lots of fruit on campus at Bakersfield College!
Last spring I drove to Bakersfield to meet Kyle, a college pastor in town. Kyle and I had a great time talking and dreaming together about how he and his church college group could multiply disciples on campus at Bakersfield College; we also got to go on campus together to do some evangelism.
Fast-forward to last week… Kyle had me come back to do two days of evangelism training for his students on campus at Bakersfield College. Here are the highlights from my trip:
There are well over 100 students in Kyle's college ministry! Some of them also attend CSU Bakersfield and Taft College. May the Lord use Kyle and his student leaders to start multiplying movements of disciple-makers on all three of these campuses!
Pray for Pastor Kyle and his students as they make disciples at Bakersfield College!
Last month I had the joy of going on campus at Bakersfield College with Pastor Kyle and his intern, Haley. And what a fruitful time! We shared the Gospel with several students and taught them how to do One Thing Studies. The highlight for me was seeing Kyle and Haley (pictured above) engage with students while I just watched from a distance. I get to go back to Bakersfield in the next couple of weeks and help train more students (from Kyle's college group) in evangelism and disciple-making on campus.
I am continuously amazed at the spiritual openness on campuses all over CA!
There are 2.1 million students on 113 community colleges in CA alone!
Pray for Pastor Kyle as he continues equipping students to multiply disciples at Bakersfield College, Taft College, and CSU Bakersfield.
There are pastors like Kyle near every community college; please pray that that Lord would connect us with them!
Thank you for joining us!
“Will you teach me how to share my faith?”
I love those days when the Lord reminds me, “This is exactly what I created you for!” This past Wednesday I got to experience one of those days. I had the privilege of spending the day in Bakersfield. Here is a summary of what happened:
In the picture to the left you’ll see Silas (left) sharing the Gospel with a student at Bakersfield College. I am so thankful that the Lord connected me to Silas! Silas is the pastor of young adults at a church in Bakersfield. Almost two months ago, I had the opportunity to meet Silas and share with him about how he could make disciples on campus at Bakersfield College. There was no active disciple-making ministry at Bakersfield College a month ago. Now there is! I made the 4-hour drive down to Bakersfield a few times to train Silas in evangelism and disciple-making on campus. A few weeks ago, he said “I’ve got it!” And he does! He is now committed to being on campus every week to disciple students and equip them to share their faith and make disciples as well. I look forward to the continued friendship and partnership in the Gospel with Silas. Thank you for sending me to the Silases
PRAY WITH US FOR MORE SILASES!
Our strategy is to find a local church near every one of the 113 community colleges in CA to own the mission of starting a discipleship movement on campus.
I am part of the CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ) staff team based in Fresno. Sherry (above right) is one of the seven on our team. Sherry and I met with a few pastors in Bakersfield last week to share how they and their churches could make disciples on campus at Bakersfield College.
They were two wonderful meetings! Silas (above middle) is one of those college pastors. I will be going down to Bakersfield later this week to go on campus and do spiritual surveys with Silas. How exciting to see the beginning of a movement at Bakersfield College!
The Yorks are passionate about bringing the Gospel to the nations - especially the unreached of the world (those who have no access to the Gospel). They are convinced that the greatest impact they can have in reaching the unreached is by multiplying disciples on college campuses and equipping churches to be missional disciple-makers.
