A few days ago I drove to Coalinga to have lunch with a married couple, Josh and Amy. Josh is a chaplain at the local prison; Amy is a counselor at the college. They have a passion for college students at West Hills to know Jesus! Awhile back I met with a local youth pastor, Jarod, and Jarod told Josh and Amy that they needed to meet me. I am so glad he did!
Over lunch I showed Josh and Amy the Soularium spiritual survey. I also walked them through some very simple follow-up tools to share the Gospel and teach students how to read the Bible. At one point, Josh and Amy remarked:
“This is so simple! We were thinking that we were going to have to wait a few months and do a lot of planning and preparation - but we could start doing this now!”
I was so encouraged by their enthusiasm. They are currently thinking and praying through their next step - which might be simply starting to disciple some college students they already know. What a great way to start a disciple-making movement!
Pray for Josh and Amy!
Pray that the Lord would use them to reach West Hills College!
I recently made the drive to Southern CA to meet with Jeff (a college pastor) and Humberto (a volunteer leader for the college ministry). Pastor Jeff and I had chatted on the phone for a bit regarding their church's desire to reach students at nearby Oxnard College and Ventura College. I am so glad we had the opportunity to grab lunch together and meet in person!
After showing them some simple ways to share the Gospel and make disciples on campus, Pastor Jeff turns to Humberto and says, "We need to do this! You want to take the lead?"
Humberto immediately says: "I'm on it!"
An hour later, Humberto and I are on campus talking with an administrator at Oxnard College who tells Humberto: "Here is my card; let me know when you want to come on campus and I'll set you up."
A few weeks later and I get a text from Humberto after his first time on campus doing evangelism with the Soularium Table (our spiritual survey through pictures): "We were talking to about 5 people, deep conversations! God blessed it amazingly! Oh my! Can't even explain."
I am going back later this week to do some more evangelism and disciple-making training with Humberto.
Every time I go on campus with a local pastor to do some spiritual surveys we have the opportunity to share the Gospel with a few students. We always walk away from our time amazed at the ripe harvest on our college campuses!
Yesterday I went to Ohlone College with a local college pastor, Tyler. After I lead the way in talking with a few students, I handed the clipboard to him and let him lead the way.
Pastor Tyler has a handful of college students from Ohlone College who attend his church, as well as some students from other nearby college campuses!
The Yorks are passionate about bringing the Gospel to the nations - especially the unreached of the world (those who have no access to the Gospel). They are convinced that the greatest impact they can have in reaching the unreached is by multiplying disciples on college campuses and equipping churches to be missional disciple-makers.
