That was my prayer on Wednesday as I drove the 25-minute, winding Big Hill Road from my house in Twain Harte to the Columbia College campus. Tuesday is my campus day at Columbia College; I am normally traveling to other campuses in California on Wednesdays, but as my appointment in Fremont was postponed a week, I decided to show up on campus at Columbia College and see what God might do. I have learned time and time again that this is all I have to do: just show up, and then God works!
I grabbed my clipboard spiritual survey and walked around campus looking for students who looked like they had time to chat.
The third student I talked with, Cole, was happy to talk and share about his life and spiritual journey. I had the opportunity to share the Gospel with him, and then teach him a One Thing Study. And he happily agreed to meet up again on campus to do another One Thing Study!
He texted that same evening...
Steve, I wanted to thank you again for taking the time to talk with me today, and I wanted to share one of my favorite bible verses with you:
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not consume you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned and the flames shall not consume you." Isaiah 43:2
Cole and I plan to meet up again on Tuesday.
Pray for Cole, that the Lord would bless him and continue drawing him to Himself.
Pray for the multitude of 'Coles' on our college campuses.
Praising the Lord for the ripe harvest!
I am so thankful for what the Lord is doing at Columbia College!
As I was driving to Santa Cruz a few days ago, I was praying for a divine appointment on campus. I am well aware that UC Santa Cruz has a reputation for being a spiritually dark place, and I was actually fearing that my time on campus with Pastors Brandon and Keith would be unfruitful and even discouraging. Wow, was I wrong!
We had several wonderful spiritual conversations with students. One of those students, also named Brandon (above left), quickly told us that he is a Christian and very involved in the Korean Christian Fellowship on campus. After we took him through our survey, he asked: “Can I have your clipboard survey… because we are doing an outreach this afternoon and I’d like to use it.” I happily gave it to him!
Pastor Brandon (the college pastor at Santa Cruz Bible Church) and Pastor Keith (the high school pastor) and I had a great time on campus and look forward to coming alongside Brandon and his campus ministry to do more evangelism and disciple-making. Please be praying for:
The Yorks are passionate about bringing the Gospel to the nations - especially the unreached of the world (those who have no access to the Gospel). They are convinced that the greatest impact they can have in reaching the unreached is by multiplying disciples on college campuses and equipping churches to be missional disciple-makers.
